Stand by Me- Crash landing into K-Pop

"Music is a language that doesn’t speak in particular words. It speaks in emotions, and if it’s in the bones, it’s in the bones..."
      Keith Richards, Musician.

'The one where it all started...'
I just love this phrase. The little thing which was followed by a huge journey. I underwent a huge makeover in terms of music recently which has left me more breathless than ever.

I'm talking about my k-pop fever which started a while ago and before I knew it, I was already enjoying it.
Originally, I was not a huge kpop fan- I wasn't even sure if I could distinguish one Asian from another, leave alone korean bandmates. So, I wasn't really keen about this stuff. In fact, I scorned on people who held kpop in high views, because no one had ever taught me that music/art is unbound by barriers.

A few years back, my friend pulled me into the Korean wave with her and that's when I binged my first Korean drama- Descendants of the sun, an action-packed romance. (Which by the way, as I concluded, the most awesome drama I had ever watched).l simply loved it. Here's the official poster...

They say that reading first page of a book leads to the second; then, the third and so on. That's how I became fascinated by so many other crunchy and sizzling storylines- The legend of the blue sea (historical romance and fantasy), Gangnam beauty (high school genre), Flower of evil (psychological thriller and mystery),To the beautiful you (athletics and comedy). I overcame the barrier of nationality/race in appreciation of art. In doing so, I permanently erased my prejudiced notion of westerners' sole superiority in the entertainment industry. And also, supplicated some rare and precious Original Soundtracks (OSTs).

Flower of Evil- A psychological thriller: Official poster

Anyway, one of these was the drama called Boys over flowers which shook the Asian entertainment world in 2009, as a matter of fact. Based on a manga (comic) of the same name, BoF forced me to enter fandom. Just ask a fan what F4 means and they'll just chat with you about everything from the weird-yet-endearing onscreen hairstyles to undying friendships displayed in BoF.

The OST was great for BoF, but one of the melodies hit me hard and made me smile like crazy though I didn't understand a word of lyrics, like 90% of the time. It was Stand by me by the boy group SHINee (pronunciation: Shiny).

I don't know why, but it felt so good to listen to it again and again and think about BoF. The language barrier felt nonexistent. I could feel every emotion in the melody though I couldn't place a single word in its rightful position. It still feels the same-
Together make it love. Forever, make it your smile. Stand by me!

The lyrics are really magical and never ever fail to put a smile on my face.

To be honest, at first, I didn't want to get involved in the pop stuff and purely enjoy only the drama world. I didn't really want to check out k-pop due to reasons incomprehensible. But, it's always the curiosity that kills the cat. Or maybe provides some nice music. I don't know what.

Anyway, after Stand by me , I felt hungry for more of nice songs. So, I decided to give a shot to SHINee because that was the only band which made me feel nice and basically, I only knew about them.

It took a while, but me and my into-kpop-stan friends, started googling SHINee and while doing so entered the unknown world of Grade-alpha dance choreographies. The choreography always leaves me craving for more. And, trust me, I can watch it infinite amount of times though previously, I had like, zero interest in any form of dance.

Now, I just can't skip a day without listening to my personal SHINee fav playlist like- Hello, Ring ding dong, View, Replay and SHINee member: Taemin's singles "Want" and "Move". And that's when I became a 'Shawol'-SHINee World (Shawol is the official word for SHINee fans).

Amazingly, I'm a Shawol and it all started with 'Stand by me'.
Annyeong!

P.S.- Due to content development constraints, I wasn't able to put more mesmerising songs in here. I hope, I blog about every single one of them in future. Binge it!

A Whole New World

A Whole New World by Brad Kane and Lea Salonga  © Universal Music Publishing Group My only wish? I want my prince to show me all the wonders in the world while we fly a date. An addition: We need to sing this one! This song literally leaves me speechless each time I hear it. It gives me shivers till my hair get raised. An excellent original by Disney, ' A whole new world ' breaks all the rules of breathtaking and rises my expectations for music and love. Not a girly one, nor a macho-sided one; this is the perfect duet with high couple goals. The music video shows traces of an exciting friendship which turns into a great melody with the help of 90s animation. Jasmine (a lonely princess who's never seen the world outside her palace) hesitates to join Aladdin as he tries to display the world in front of her. Her curiosity changes to a buzzing confidence as Jasmine reciprocates Aladdin's feelings by singing with him. And soon, it's pure and clear love...

Everytime (Punch + Chen)

"Oh, Everytime, I see you...." That's all. That's truly all it takes to drive my mind out of my cosy body and push it over the cliff into the amazing world of Descendants of the sun . DOTS was my first Korean drama and I loved every pixel of its aesthetic and wallpaper-ish scenery, every syllable of its mind-blowing dialogues and of course, every decibel of its soundtrack. It doesn't surprise me at all that DOTS owns one of the most famous soundtracks with each masterpiece in it fitting every single stage of love, friendship, heartbreak and above all, fairy tales... I figured what confessions mean through Always , being in love was taught by You are my everything ; and a lot of other songs showed me a diversity in the shades of tender feelings. But, above all Everytime canvasses the stage one of love: falling for someone. That's the beauty of songs, you understand human emotions in a beautiful technique; minus the hassle and plus a melody. Everytime...

© Universal Music Publishing Group I love Coco . It's one of the premium category movies in the shelf of my mind. I would actually be more surprised if I did not adore it. •It has a great and soul-satisfying tale. •It has an awesome animation (which means lots of colours, Yay!) •The characters connect to my being, somewhere within the folds of my heart. And to top this treat, we have great songs. There isn't a single song which is ill-placed or something. I'm grateful to everyone who worked on Coco 's soundtrack and made it my favourite musical. And trust me, I'm not a huge fan of musicals (though they're definitely neat). Coco is a based on Mexican culture and showcases the tradition of Dia de Muertos (The Day of the Dead). I won't give any spoilers (and, that's not the purpose of this write-up anyway), but I highly recommend watching this delicious Disney production. If it's your ideal type, you'll love every second of it! ...
