Alone again, naturally by Gilbert O'Sullivan

In any kind of creation, positive and negative aspects hold equal importance. Every creator struggles for this type of balance. Gilbert O'Sullivan is definitely one of such artists. Unlike the many music composers out there, O'Sullivan hits the chord and strikes the above balance in one of his creation. Yes, I'm talking about his song 'Alone again, naturally'.
Just lend your ears once to this masterpiece and you won't be disappointed. As a reader, I've come across so many characters who hide a dark past with a sarcastic bravado. Really, this one reminded me of that. This song is such an amazing melody and you may jam it while cooking, working or even enjoying a steamy cup of cocoa.
The music is really easy on the ears and gave me wings the first time I heard it. Ofcourse, I didn't pay close attention to the lyrics. What with O'Sullivan's solo guitar!
Then, I analysed its lyrics closely. I've never once seen so much grief concealed and expressed behind a nice tune simultaneously.
The song begins as any other with some self-musing and takes a horrifying turn when the singer's feelings unravel. I shall leave it to the listener to spot the melancholy in the third line. The song is suicidal in itself. (I'm not promoting anything psychological, please. The beauty of grief is as enthralling as of joy. The song stylishly proves it.)
A heart broken by assumed-love. That's all it took to weave this one. The sorrow spreads like wildfire and O'Sullivan goes further...

Hearts which are left unattended do take dangerous quests. And what else can they do?
The grief captures the mind and freezes rational thoughts. The singer wonders about the death of his parents as he opens everything he's piled in for years. He shows the influence of bitterness on one's heart. A poisoned heart makes him question on his faith and trust on the world. Pathetic deserves sympathy, not apathy, I translate. Truly, sorrow is gracefully elegant and yet, unwanted.
A tear brushed my cheeks as this thought rushed through my mind. How could a miserable thing be so hearty?

P.S.- Gilbert O'sullivan didn't trademark only tragedies. If you want a happy one, go for "Claire".
